【摘要】:Thequalityofthepavementmarkingisdeterminedbythecoefficientofretroreflectedluminance,RL,beitdryorwet,anddependsonthematerialsused,age,andwearpattern.Theseconditionsshallbeobservedandnotedbytheuser.Underidenticalconditionsofheadlightilluminationanddriver’viewing,largervaluesofRLcorrespondtohigherlevelsofvisualperformanceatcorrespondinggeometry.Thepavementmarking’measuredperformanceinconditionsofcontinuouswettingmaybeusedtocharacterizetheperformanceofthemarkingontheroadaswateriscontinuouslyfallingonitandmayberepresentativetoaperiodofrain.Thisperformanceofthemarkingmaybedifferentthanthatexperiencedwhenthemarkingsarejustwetordamp.Retroreflectivityofpavement(road)markingsdegradeswithtrafficwearandrequiresperiodicmeasurementtoensurethatsufficientlinevisibilityisprovidedtodrivers.ForexampleseeSpecificationD6359fordryreflectivityrequirements.Foragivenviewingdistance,measurementsofRLmadewitharetroreflectometerhavingageometrycorrespondingtothatviewingdistanceareagoodindicatorofthevisualrankingofthematerialmeasured.AsspecifiedbyTestMethodE1710,themeasurementgeometryoftheinstrumentisbasedonaviewingdistanceof30m,aneyeheightof1.2mandaheadlightmountingheightof0.65m(seeAppendixX1).Newlyinstalledpavementmarkingsmayhaveanaturalsurfacetensionorreleaseagentswhichpreventthewettingoutoftheproductbyrain/water.Thisphenomenonproducesaninterferencewhenassessingthewetcharacteristicsofapavementmarking.Attempttomeasuremarkingswiththissurfacex201C;non-wettingx201D;ofthewatermaygivehighervalues.Thisconditionisshortlivedandmarkingsthathavebeenontheroadforonemonthormoredonotexhibitthisnon-wetting.Itshallbetheresponsibilityoftheusertoemployaninstrumenthavingthespecifiedobservationandentranceangles.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthemeasurementofthewetretroreflective(RL)propertiesofhorizontalpavementmarkingmaterials,suchastrafficstripesandroadsurfacesymbols,usingaportableormobileretroreflectometerthatcanbeplacedonorbeforetheroadmarkingtomeasuretheretroreflectionattheprescribedgeometry.1.2Thismethodofmeasuringofthewetretroreflectiveproperties(RL)ofpavementmarkingsutilizesamethodofcontinuouslywettingthemarkingduringmeasurementwiththeretroreflectometer(seeFig1).Note18212TestMethodE2177maybeusedtodescribetheperformanceofpavementmarkingsinconditionsofwetnessafteraperiodofrain.1.3ThistestmethodspecifiestheuseofportableormobilereflectometersthatcanmeasurepavementmarkingsperTestMethodE1710.Theentranceandobservationanglesrequiredoftheretroreflectometerinthistestmethodarecommonlyreferredtoas"30metergeometry."1.4Thistestmethodisintendedtobeusedforfieldmeasurementofpavementmarkingsbutmaybeusedtomeasuretheperformanceofmaterialsonsamplepanelsbeforeplacingthemarkingmaterialinthefield.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
